REVIEW:
DR GENIUS AND THE SECRET AGENT FORMULA
IF MAGAZINE ISSUE 19 NOVEMBER 1999
Blam! This one hits right on the kisser. This is great action filmmaking in the tradition of stuntmen directors Nash Edgerton and Kieran Darcy-Smith (Loaded). Difference is, this is a spoof. And it's funny.

This is not the first short to take the 1970s Mod Squad/Starsky & Hutch television genre and turn it into a post-modern action comedy - but it may be the best. The stunt work is truly excellent (several scenes left me wondering how the hell they did that), it's well shot and the acting stands up well. Good guys Charles Hollywood (yes, it's his real name) and Brian Sisko do a terrific job, and Roger Bottoms and Indigo Kaskayde are not far behind them as the formula-stealing baddies.

I'm not keen to glamourise the whole idea of 'no budget' filmmaking, but this film really deserves a special mention. I was looking through the production notes expecting to see a budget of a few hundred grand in this one. Nope $300.

The only criticism I have for this terrific pic is the gratuitous use of flaming After Effects (or whatever) on some of the scenes. This was the only give away of the budget. Otherwise brilliant.
